Great Night At Barnes & Noble!

Great Night At Barnes & Noble!

Around 20 people stayed after the Marvel Trivia contest to watch my Sketching Demonstration!
Met some wonderful folks and I hope many of them become fast friends!

Just wanted to say THANKS to Tina and everyone at Barnes and Noble for giving me the opportunity to reach out with my art,and for being so gracious and kind. The manager did a public address announcement in the store thanking me and I was very humbled by the kind words.

I also wanted to let everyone know its coming down to the wire for my indiegogo campaign, so I'm running a special, detailed below from my facebook page:

$10 SPECIAL! Last TWO WEEKS of my Campaign!

For the last two weeks of my campaign, any contribution of $10 or more will receive a 5"x7" pencil sketch in addition to the signed copy of "Profit and Loss"!

I have half the table fee right now, if I get the full table fee I WILL go to Comic Con. The rest would help greatly, but I'll manage!
Share this, text it, tweet it, get it out to everyone you know. If you are not a superhero or sci-fi fan, I can make the sketches or color charcoals of friends and loved ones (if you send me a good couple pictures!)

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Indiegogo Campaign

I've been very pleasantly surprised at the reaction to my original art at the Ripken event, as I said before, many were inquiring and encouraging me to go to Baltimore Comic Con.

This has convinced me to at least TRY to get to BCC.
But I don't have the money.... So I have dipped my toes in the waters of social media and crowd funding.

I have an Indiegogo campaign up at http://igg.me/at/redeemedcomics

Please feel free to visit it, and if led, drop a couple dollars in the bucket. I have rewards for doing so, described on the site.

I really believe that God is showing me that I CAN supplement  my families income and make a go at launching a real comic book company producing wholesome, Biblically sound comics.

If you'd like to part of the start, in on the ground floor of an enterprise such as this, I welcome your support!

Star Wars Night at Ripken Stadium

Last night, June 12 was Star wars night at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. I was invited by the good folks at Xpanding Universe (The most family-friendly Comic Book store in Harford County… you need to go there and spend some money!) to come and be their “artist-in-residence” for the night, sketching Star wars characters and such.

Yoda- charcoal and Pastel on watercolor paper
A New Hope
Revenge of the Jedi 7.14
Yoda Kirby Krackle
Boba Fett Watercolor
Yoda b-w
Darth Maul Charcoal
Han and Chewi Pencil
Obi-Wan Pencil
As you can see, I kept myself busy!
It was a challenge and a pleasure, as I stretched myself artistically, tackling my dreaded art foe, COLOR. I tried my hand at watercolors for the first time in years with Boba Fett and the “Revenge of the Jedi” movie poster. Color Yoda and Darth Maul were done in charcoal and dry pastels mixed. The Black and White pieces are Ink and brush or Dip Pen. The last two are pencil sketches I did in my car!

The encouraging parts were the comments and the kids. Everyone seemed genuinely impressed with the level of the art, which I still can’t believe. An Artist never sees his own work as others do. We only see the mistakes. My friend Rob May who was my “black and White Art” teacher at Harford Community College, and who encouraged me to start teaching as well was there being my number one cheerleader. He kept stating what he always says about my art, that he loves my “style.” Unfortunately, I cannot see my “style”! I just draw stuff pitifully and give up eventually! If I have a style, it’s a mystery to me!
But the people, especially the kids were amazing.

As I sketched away they would stand beside me or behind, and the appreciation they showed was amazing.
More than once I was asked if I would be at the Baltimore Comic-Con in September. I am encouraged to look into it, but the cost may be prohibitive. Pray with me about this. If  it’s possible to go, I just might make contacts that could lead to future work. If I could support my family partly with my art, and take some burden off my church, I believe I would have the freedom of scheduling, and the energy that comes from working two jobs that I dearly love: Being a Pastor and being an Artist!

Once again, Than you Xpanding Universe for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me.

If You’ve never been there, I highly recommend you drop by, they are in the Mars Shopping Center in Aberdeen, on the side near the Car Rental store. Click on their Logo above to go to their Facebook page for hours, contact info and the rest.
Soon I’ll post about the Drawing Superheroes Comic Book Class I’ll be teaching on Thursday nights at Xpanding Universe starting September 25!
Gotta go now, Church starts in two hours! Are you going to church this Sunday Morning? if not, come on over to First Baptist, I promise, most of us don’t bite! www.firstbaptist-church.org is our website, and you can watch the service live online starting at 10:30 every Sunday morning.
God Bless, an update on “Profit and Loss” is also coming soon!

Sketch Event at Xpanding Universe

Saturday, November 23 I will be at Xpanding Universe, a cool new comic book shop in Aberdeen, doing sketches and teaching a short class on comic book art.

Xpanding Universe just opened a few months ago, and its a very nice shop with a great selection
of new issues, trade paperbacks and graphic novels.

I will be there from 2pm until 5pm.
From 2-3 I will be sketching-- ALL SKETCHES ARE FREE!!
Then from 3-4 I will be teaching a class on the basics of comic book drawing.
then more FREE sketching from 4-5.
I'll be doing stuff like this...

and even this...

The only downside to this is that at that time, the world premire of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special is airing. Thankfully DVR will allow me to see it.
If you watch it first, then come to the shop...DON'T TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!
I need to be surprised! I know its going to be great!

So I hope to see you there. I'll be doing pencil sketches, of course, but also some pen and ink and brush and ink stuff. Mostly Batman and Superman, but I'll try my hand at some others as well...

Ashcan Edition

The First 12 pages of “Profit and Loss” are done, the cover colored, and 24 limited edition copies printed!

Now on to finishing the last 27 pages and getting this printed and into the hands of people all over the world!

I want to thank Carla Howes for doing such a spectacular job on the Ashcan cover colors. I gave her a pen and ink portrait of Ethan and asked for her expertise with Copic Markers to finish it. It’s an awesome coloring job!

In weeks to come I will be posting some rough pencils, and maybe even a few “in progress” posts showing my workflow in producing a finished comic page.

Take a look at the cover below.

You can also download a digital copy of the 12-page Ashcan in the sidebar under "downloads"
It will take you to the cloud where you can download the .CBR
A .CBR is a Comic Book Reader format, its simply Jpeg's grouped into a consecutive file that allows you to "turn pages" so to speak.
If you have an iPhone, iPad or Android phone or tablet, there are many free CBR readers in the App stores. If you are going to read it on your computer, search for CBR reader and you can find many good ones, such as Comical or Comic Rack.
Leave me a comment along with your email and I will make sure you get a FREE print copy of the completed book.
If you don't want to leave your email in the comments, fill out "Contact Redeemed Comics" in the sidebar!

I’m updating all previous posts on this site, looking for a cleaner, more interactive experience here, and many, many more updates than in the past.
Redeemed Comics is not just “Profit and Loss”. I have many more projects in mind, including my “great project” of producing a complete Systematic Theology in comic book form.
Soon I will post about that project and give you a sneak peek at what it will involve.
